With digital technologies, it is now possible to quickly convert a text document into MP3 or DAISY audio, read by a high-quality, “natural” synthetic voice.

Conversion may include audio description of graphic content such as images, paintings, graphs, tables, etc.

DAISY

DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) is an open format designed to replace traditional audiobooks on cassette, with numerous advantages:

• • Structuring the book (in chapters, sub-chapters, sections, etc.)
  • Placement of markers
  • Text search (impossible in a conventional audiobook!)
  • Combination of text and audio, makes reading easier for those with dyslexia or low vision.

AUDIO DESCRIPTION

Audio description is an adaptation of visual content with the aim of making it accessible to people who are blind or have low vision. In the case of television, an announcer provides an audio description of scenes or images in the programme that are not perceptible to people with visual impairments, and this description is then broadcast during silences in the television content, at times when there are no characters talking.

In museums or visual arts exhibitions, audio descriptions are used to provide access to visitors who are blind or have low vision. Teachers or guides can be instructed to use audio description in their presentations. Audio description of sporting events is becoming increasingly common, especially in football stadiums.
